Naan (Without Yeast) Recipe, How to make Naan on Tawa/Griddle

A really simple naan recipe with step by step pics -
Naan is a type of leavened bread and traditionally cooked in a clay oven.
100% tried and tested, no yeast, no oven, restaurant style, eggless NAAN recipe for easy home cooking.
This is really useful recipe for them who don’t prefer adding yeast. The other benefit is you can make it without tandoor/oven.

Tandoori naan can be easily made on tawa/griddle as well. The best thing is that the naan remains soft even when they are warm and cool down completely.

Step by step naan recipe:
  1. Take ¼ cup curd; add 1 tsp sugar, ½ tsp salt and ½ tsp baking soda and mix well. Take 2 cups maida in a big bowl, add the curd mixture and 1.5 tbsp. oil to it and combine well.
  2. With the help of lukewarm water, knead soft dough. Now grease your hands with some oil and keep kneading the dough for 5-6 minute until smooth. Finally grease the surface of dough with few drops of oil. Cover the bowl and keep it aside for 2-3 hours to set.
  3. Dust your hand with some dry flour and knead the dough again. Divide the dough into 6 equal balls. Dust all the dough balls and cover it with a kitchen napkin to prevent it from drying.
  4. Preheat a griddle/tawa. Dust a dough ball and roll to make naan.
  5. The shape can be round or oval. Naans are usually thicker than roti. Brush the entire surface of naan with some water.
  6. Now place it on tawa with wet surface down. After a minute, the upper surface will look little puffy.
  7. Now hold the handle of tawa and flip the tawa on flame and roast naan until it gets brown spots. Place back the tawa on flame and with the help of a flipping spoon remove the naan from tawa.
  8. Spread the butter over it and serve hot. Likewise prepare all the naans.
