Namkeen
pare is a savory snack which comes in different shapes and sizes. Methi namkeen
pare is a traditional tea time snack often made during festive occasions.
Namkeen – savory and Para – fragment or piece. It is also known as ‘methi shankarpali’ in Marathi
It
is a crispy, crunchy and flavorful, tea time snack. It has a good shelf life and
it is easy to carry for picnics. So make it ahead of time and relish it on the
go…:)
While
having tea on weekends, my family loves to have some snacks with it like
mathri, chivda or namkeen or any kind of savory para and khakhara. So this time
I thought of making this delicacy, which was enjoyed by everyone including my little
one.
While making this recipe, you can roll and cut this methi para all at once and spread it on a parchment paper or wide
tray or plate and then fry them all in batches. So let’s get started.
Step by step methi
namkeen pare recipe:
- Take flour in a big mixing bowl. Add ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1½ tsp red chili powder, 3 or 4 tbsp. kasuri methi, ½ tsp cumin seeds and salt to taste. Mix well.
- To that add 4 tbsp. Oil and combine everything. Rub oil well with flour to make it crumbly.
- Add water and knead that to make in to stiff dough. Cover and allow it to rest for 10 minutes.
- Now divide the dough into 3-4 medium sized ball. Take one of the dough balls and roll that out in to thin roti.
- Cut that into desired shape with the help of pizza cutter. Or with a serrated knife make crisscross patterns on the rolled dough.
- Heat up the oil in kadhai or wok. Remove the diamond shaped patterns and keep it aside in a plate or wide bowl. Similarly make rest of the methi pare.
- Deep fry them in hot oil on medium flame, till it becomes golden brown and crispy. It should take at least 6-7 minutes per batch.
- Deep fry until it gets deep golden color.
- Shake off all excess oil from fried pare and drain them on a paper napkin.
- I love eating the methi namkeen pare with tea.
