Raw banana wedges in sauce recipe

Have you ever thought of making a raw banana Chinese recipe? The recipe came out so tasty that my kiddo and hubby loved it like anything.
This is a recipe of fried banana wedges which is then sautéed in a hot and sweet sauce. The recipe is inspired from the indo-Chinese food. This can be served as evening snacks or starters.

This is a recipe from Jain cuisine. Using raw banana in cooking this Chinese dish doesn’t really change much of the taste. If you are not making pure Jain food, you can use potatoes instead of raw banana.

Step by step raw banana wedges in sauce recipe:
  1. First boil 3 raw bananas until done in a pressure cooker. Let it cool down. Peel and chop them into wedges.
  2. Take a bowl, put ½ cup cornstarch, ½ tsp baking soda, freshly crushed black pepper and salt as per taste.
  3. Mix all and prepare a batter by adding little water at a time and then add 1 tsp olive oil.
  4. Now dip the chopped raw banana (boiled) in the batter and fry it in hot oil.

  5. Take a pan and put oil for heating. Add 1 tsp sugar.
  6. Then add 4 tsp soya sauce, ¼ cup tomato paste and 2 tsp chili sauce.
     
  7. Add salt to taste and mix all to prepare sauce.
  8. Immediately put the fried banana slices in the sauce.
      
  9. Sauté till it coats the slices evenly.
  10. Garnish with sesame seeds.

INGREDIENTS (measuring cup used, 1 cup=237 ml)
For chips-
  • 3-4 raw banana/1 Plantain (boiled)
  • Oil for frying
  • ½ cup corn flour / cornstarch
  • 1-2 black pepper corns
  • ½ tsp baking soda
For sauce-
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • 2 tsp chili sauce
  • 2 tsp lemon syrup
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 4 tsp soya sauce
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp. sesame seeds for garnishing
DIRECTION
  1. First boil the raw bananas until done. Let it cool down. Peel and chop them into wedges.
  2. Take a bowl, put cornstarch, baking soda, olive oil, freshly crushed black pepper and salt.
  3. Mix all and prepare a batter by adding little water at a time. The batter should be like pakora batter; neither too thin nor too thick.  
  4. Now dip the chopped raw banana (boiled) in the batter and fry it in hot oil.
  5. Take a pan and put oil for heating. Add sugar, soya sauce, tomato paste and chili sauce. Add salt as per taste and mix all. Let the sauce come to a boil.  
  6. Immediately put the fried banana slices in the sauce and sauté till cooked.
  7. Raw banana wedges in sauce are ready to be served.
SERVING SUGGESTION
Garnish with some sesame seeds and serve hot raw banana wedges in sauce.
